CASE STUDY

FIRST DATA INTERNATIONAL

First Data International (FDI) is a major payments processor for banks, finance companies and commercial enterprise throughout Europe.

When FDI opened their new regional office in Glasgow they appointed Professional Sound Consultancy to design, supply, install and commission a new audio visual system throughout the three floors of the building.

FDI required a number of particular features for the new system covering:

Displaying the AVAYA call centre information incorporating SKY television to all staff

Broadcasting background music and SKY audio to all staff

The facility to broadcast paging announcements.

With the outline specification from the client Professional Sound Consultancy designed a tailor-made user friendly system that met all required operations.

The AV system housed within the building consisted of a number of LCD displays, loudspeakers and volume controls installed in the ground, first and second floor offices. Each of the ten LCD displays were separately cabled to the equipment rack located in the first floor communications room. The loudspeakers were wired as three zones to allow independent paging and background music to be broadcast to each floor.

The main user interface for the system comprised of two 9 inch Crestron touch screen controls. The touch screens were programmed to cover a range of functions including:-

  • Remote on and off switching for each LCD display
  • Control of AVAYA video signals to be displayed on each LCD
  • Selection of Sky television channels to be broadcast with AVAYA      information
  • Control of selected radio stations to be broadcast
  • First Data Glasgow Installation

An 8-button desktop mounted microphone was provided at the main reception desk for paging announcements to be broadcast to each floor or to the entire building. Local volume controls on each floor were supplied with volume restoration relays to ensure that paging announcements were heard at full volume regardless of the volume setting. The installation also included a roof mounted Sky satellite dish and DAB antenna.

The equipment rack housing the audio and Kramer video matrices, Crestron control equipment, audio amplifiers, Sky digi box and DAB tuner was designed, built and tested at Professional Sound Consultancy's premises in Haverhill, Suffolk before being transported to site where it was installed and connected to the field cabling.

FDI was so impressed with the system that shortly after completion of the work a near identical system was commissioned for one of the buildings at their Basildon headquarters in Essex. This included identical Kramer video equipment and Crestron control touch screens in addition to modifications to their existing Public Address system.
